    Discoid lupus and plaquenil

The pharmacist said there wont be any danger just stopping it. Has anyone gone off the plaquenil and what happened? I was put on Plaquenil for RA as I was being dx for lupus. My rhuemy wants me to stop every time I have an infection. Best of luck, Creekbank My mom said she read that plaquenil is mainly used for the discoid lupus and people with the joint pain. There is no taper needed or withdrawal, but if it has been helping you, you may have increased symptoms by the time you go for your next appointment. If so, you would likely be able to get a prescription from that doctor for one month's supply to tide you over. I have only taken it once, so I am not sure what the results will be. I stopped mine and went into a life threatening flare - I would call your PCP to get a refill You may be fine or not- depends on if your illness has been lurking in the background waiting for an opportunity to launch an attack Louters, I went to see a new rheum and he took me off the Plaquenil to see what symptoms would show. I agree with poobie and would call your pcp to get a refill if possible.

Discoid lupus erythematosus DLE and subacute cutaneous lupus erythematosus SCLE are variants of cutaneous lupus that may occur independently or as manifestations of systemic lupus erythematosus. DLE most commonly occurs on the head and is characterized by well-defined inflammatory plaques that evolve into atrophic, disfiguring scars. Plaquenil will eventually help your hair loss, but that will be a very slow process over a long period of time since plaquenil builds up in your body pretty slowly. And you should keep your head a scalp protected from the sun as VeeJ said. May 01, 2019 DLE discoid is lupus confined to the skin. SLE can include DLE, but is systemic joints, kidneys, etc. Discoid can be scarring for sure. I have had it since 2010, and I was dx'd by biopsy. My ANA is a borderline positive, and further lupus panels are negative. I have not developed systemic issues.
